Soumyadeep is a medical doctor and international public health specialist with more than 8 years’ experience as a methodologist and public health generalist.  His work is focused on employing and innovating on a diverse range of methodologies (rapid evidence synthesis, national evidence gap maps, qualitative research, and lot quality assurance sampling) as fit-for-purpose approaches for public health research and practice, including for evaluation of public health programs. He has a demonstrated history of impactful work which has informed multiple WHO guidelines, national and sub-national policies, and stimulating discussion in public discourse. Organisations which have used his work include but is not limited to World Health Organization (headquarters, regional and country office), NHMRC- Australia, and National Health Systems Resource Centre, India. Soumyadeep is also interested in addressing equity and in understanding model philosophies which underpin current research and global health ecosystems.

At the Institute, he is the Co-Head of the Meta-research and Evidence Synthesis Unit, and a Senior Research Fellow, in the Injury Division of The George Institute for Global Health. As Co-head, Meta-research and Evidence Synthesis Unit, Soumyadeep develops and oversees implementation of strategic plans for the unit, which has a growing portfolio of high-quality systematic reviews, rapid evidence synthesis, core outcome set, guideline development, qualitative evidence synthesis, evidence gap maps, and meta-research. His work in the Injury division includes leading the work on snakebite and providing technical expertise on drowning. He is also part of the institutes working group on Planetary Health.

Soumyadeep has studied medicine at Bankura Sammilani Medical College, India and international public health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom. He has previously worked as a researcher with the Public Health Foundation of India, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Cochrane South Asia and as an emergency physician in Columbia Asia Hospitals, Salt Lake.

Soumyadeep is also an Associate Editor, Evidence Synthesis, BMJ Global Health, and Co-Convenor of the Cochrane Priority Setting Methods Group.
