Cancer Surveillance in Africa
Formerly head of the cancer registry programme at the International Agency for Research on Cancer for 23 years, now based at CTSU, Professor Max Parkin lead the development of the global cancer registry programme which has been so important in determining trends in cancer and to gain insights in the effects of screening and treatment in populations as well as detecting potential environmental influences on cancer.
While this effort has been very successful, many countries in the developing world still lack the ability to report on cancer trends. He is addressing this in Africa and will talk about that on Thursday.
As well as his Oxford appointment he is Adjunct Professor at the Karolinska institute, Stockholm and honorary Professor at the University of Peking.
