Dr Amy Vassallo

Amy Vassallo is an Honorary Fellow in the Global Women’s Health Program at the George Institute for Global Health.

She has a PhD in epidemiology (2018), and tertiary qualifications in medical science, nutritional science and community and health development.  Her research focusses on understanding sex and gender based blindness and bias within health and medical research; and developing evidence based policies, processes and approaches to address these gaps. She comes to the George with a diverse background in public health research and policy including immunisation, chronic disease primary and secondary prevention and gynaecological cancer control.

Amy is committed to using innovation and evidence to improve health related outcomes for all. She has applied this throughout her career generating, synthesising and assessing evidence for population health interventions. Amy is equally passionate about equity in the research sector, holding advisory roles on two national committees focussed on advocacy, support and capacity building for early career researchers (EMCR Forum Representative Network) and women (Franklin Women). She leads Franklin Women’s leadership research, which is contributing to the national evidence base for gender equity initiatives in Australia.
