Consumer and Community Advisory Committee – call for Expressions of Interest

The George Institute Australia aims to excel in Consumer and Community Involvement (CCI) in health research. To achieve this goal, we are seeking members to join our Consumer and Community Advisory Committee. We are looking for individuals who are eager to play a pivotal role by being central to informing the implementation of our CCI Program.

Your contribution will help ensure that consumer interest is at the centre of all our research activities and operations. 

Primary responsibilities

  • guide, advise and oversee our Consumer and Community Involvement strategies and activities, our research priorities and relevant communications;
  • generate systems and processes for monitoring Consumer and Community Involvement (CCI) activities and evaluate these at various stages;
  • identify areas and opportunities for improvement with regards to involving consumers and carers in our research processes; 
  • encourage wider participation in our Consumer and Community Network; and 
  • raise awareness of our research to your relevant networks.

Reporting

This Committee will report to The Executive Director (Australia), with outcomes reported to The George Institute for Global Health’s Executive Leadership Team.

Skills and experience

  • lived experience of health conditions and/or injury, current or recent experience caring for others with such conditions, or community members who bring other relevant experience or expertise;
  • experience in any of the following areas:
    • consumer leadership;
    • health/research/program governance e.g. as a member of professional advisory committees;
    • development, implementation, evaluation of CCI strategies.
  • ability to reflect consumer and community views in their personal capacity (rather than as members of an organisation);
  • involvement with or connections to other relevant consumer and community groups, organisations, or networks.

We will provide support to ensure that your time and contribution is maximised. New members will be invited to the CCAC meeting on the 7th November 2024, with 2-hour meetings every second month thereafter. Meeting preparation is expected and contributions from members outside of meetings will be agreed in advance. We remunerate CCAC members in keeping with current Health Consumers NSW guidelines, at the Collaborate/Partner – Strategic Leadership rate of $60/hr.
