The George Institute for Global Health 2025-26 Pre-Budget Submission

Sustained investment in medical research

The George Institute for Global Health 2025-26 Pre-Budget Submission outlines six priorities for investment in future health and well-being of Australians that focus on three, interconnected core themes: prevention, equity, and resilience.

Key Budget priorities:

  1. Invest in primary health care as the backbone of the health system.
  2. Tackle Australia’s biggest health challenge – chronic disease – with a greater focus on prevention and healthy food systems.
  3. Integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges into Government Policy.
  4. Strengthen women’s health through better research, medical training, and capacity building for our health workforce.
  5. Create a healthy region with enhanced funding for health, climate, and gender equality development assistance.
  6. Position Australia as a global leader in medical research by investing in our research system.

We welcome further engagement with the Government on these themes ahead of this year’s Budget.
