All the international experts in the field will gather at this event with a united goal of “Building a safer future for all: Equitable and sustainable strategies for injury and violence prevention”.
Why is the George Institute involved?
The George Institute for Global Health is a leading injury research centre. The Injury Division aims to improve safety and optimise care and rehabilitation in the event of an injury to:
- Facilitate policy action for injury and violence prevention in India
- Bring coordinated and sustained action in the field of injury prevention and trauma care
- Explore best practices and develop effective strategies to address injury and violence across the globe
- Explore integrating road safety efforts into broader injury prevention initiatives
- Foster collaboration and cross-sectional alliances to build a comprehensive approach that tackles the root cause of injuries and fatalities
The Global Injury Research Programme at The George Institute was designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre on Injury Prevention and Trauma Care in November 2018. Through this designation and active participation in networks such as the Road Traffic Injuries Research Network, the International Road Victims Association, the Child Health Initiative, the Commonwealth Road Safety Initiative, the UK Rescue Organization, the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport and the Association for Safe International Road Travel, the team is at the forefront of partnerships that drive sustainable change through capacity-building and knowledge exchange.
The George Institute currently leads over 30 injury-related projects in Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, South Africa, Uganda and Vietnam, including development of Australia’s National Injury Prevention Strategy and projects related to drowning reduction, falls prevention among those with vision impairment, and reducing injury among children.
