Professor Rodgers has a track record in cardiovascular disease prevention, innovation and public-private partnerships, with an interest in scale-able interventions to address major risks to health. He is currently Acting Director of the Cardiovascular Division at The George Institute, Australia and Chair of Clinical Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College of London.

After graduating in medicine in the United Kingdom he trained in epidemiology and public health in New Zealand. He was the Principal Author of the 2002 World Health Report, the main annual publication for WHO. Professor Rodgers has led developments of an affordable four-in-one cardiovascular combination pill ('polypill'). He led a clinical trial program in economically developed and developing countries, funded by the Wellcome Trust, European Union and others.  

Professor Rodgers also developed a world first cell phone based smoking cessation programme for youth, which disseminated proven health support messages in an age-appropriate, affordable medium.  Over 6,000 patients were involved in clinical trials that demonstrated a 50% increase in quit rates. The service has been rolled out by Departments of Health in NZ, UK and India, with over 2 million users to date. A follow-on program delivering cognitive behavioural therapy for depression prevention was successfully trialled among 1,200 at-risk teenagers.

Aritri Dutta works at the George Institute India as an Assistant Research Manager within research support services- CORE India. Her role encompasses monitoring various funding agencies and disseminating relevant funding calls to researchers. She supports Research Manager in coordinating with research teams, finance and administration to develop proposals for submission to regional and global funding organizations and also coordinates research team meetings, workshops and training programs.
After completing a PhD in Immunology and a short postdoc she joined DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance and worked as a research administrator for more than two years. She was briefly associated with the Research and Development wing of IIT Kanpur where she managed the fund and research portfolio before joining The Institute. Aritri is interested in  development of a robust research management system within and among Indian institutes.
 

Dr Arpita Ghosh works at the George Institute for Global Health India as a Head Biostatistics and Data Science. Arpita received her doctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and post-doctoral training at the National Cancer Institute.

Her work involves quantitative research cutting across multiple areas of public health including childhood vaccination, nutrition, elderly health, and chronic diseases, particularly cancer. Arpita has extensive experience of working with secondary data sets and of conducting epidemiological studies and randomized trials. Her current research interests include causal inference for observational studies, adaptive trial designs for multi-stage studies, and record linkage.

Prior to joining The George Institute, Arpita was at the Public Health Foundation of India as a Research Scientist.

Dr Kumar is a Public Health researcher and pursuing his PhD in the area of ICD-coded sepsis disease burden at Critical Care Division of the George Institute for Global Health and working as Research Associate with Australian Sepsis Network.

Dr Kumar is a physician having a postgraduate degree in clinical pharmacology and an experienced medical researcher with a more than 14 years of cumulative academic-industry experience. In addition to Dr Kumar’s academic achievements, he has worked extensively in various roles ranging from early-to-late phase clinical and medical research. He has extensive clinical trials management and operational experience including large multinational studies.

Dr Balaji Gummidi is a Senior Project Manager at The George Institute for Global Health India. Dr Gummidi has over 7 years of experience in epidemiological data analysis and effective reporting. He has a blend of experience in project implementation, evaluation, research designs, data analysis, quality control, scientific writing and publications.

Dr Gummidi finished his Bachelor's degree in Dental Surgery at NRT university of health science, completed his Masters of Public Health from Jodhpur National University, Rajasthan and MBA in Hospital Management from GITAM University, Visakhapatnam. He has worked as Research Assistant in Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health, Maulana Azad Medical College and as a Research Fellow under Public Health Foundation of India.

Dr Gummidi has received various prestigious scholarships from Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences (NIHES), Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP), Vanderbilt-Emory-Cornell-Duke Fogarty Global Health, National Structured Operational Research and Training IniTiative (Sort-IT), American Thoracic Society (ATS).

Baldeep joined The George Institute in November 2015 and currently works as a Senior Project Manager for the INTEGRATE Study. She has 15 years of experience in project management in the higher education sector. Over the last ten years, Baldeep spearheaded a landmark, Trans-Tasman medical education evaluation and workforce planning project of national and international significance.

Baldeep has a Bachelor of Mathematical & Computer Sciences, an Honours degree in Psychology and a Masters in International Studies.

Belinda is a research fellow with the Health System Science division and her work focuses on value based health care and evaluation of new models of care in Australia. 

She completed her PhD through the George Institute's injury division and UNSW in 2021. This research adopted a health systems approach to evaluate health care services and access for patients with chronic eye disease. Belinda has played a key role in the design, implementation and evaluation of the Western Sydney Community Eye Care (C-EYE-C) model of care as both a project manager, and through her PhD studies.

Prior to starting her PhD, Belinda has worked in a variety of research and service delivery roles with a focus on chronic and infectious, infectious disease, Aboriginal health, and primary care. Belinda has collaborated with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) to design and conduct research projects which address the local needs and priorities of the community.

Ben is a doctor from the UK and Advanced Trainee in nephrology who is completing a PhD at the George Institute. The focuses of the PhD is improving the outcomes and economics of treating chronic kidney disease with a particular interest in low-and-middle-income countries. Ben is also involved with the Affordable Dialysis Project – an initiative run by The George Institute to develop a system that can provide low cost dialysis to those who currently cannot afford it. He works as clinical advisor for this project.

Justin joined The George Institute in 2020 as Chief Financial Officer, bringing with him over 25 years of international pharmaceutical experience in both a commercial and financial capacity.  His areas of expertise span investor relations, finance, strategic planning, M&A, corporate governance and marketing. 

Prior to The George Institute, Justin was the CEO of First Pharma, a boutique privately backed pharmaceutical company.  Before this, he held several senior executive positions at AstraZeneca both in Singapore and Australia.  This included the role of Area Finance Director – Asia, Sales & Marketing Director – Australia, and Chief Financial Officer of Australia.

Justin is a member of ASCPA and holds a Commerce degree from Macquarie University.  He has also undertaken various post graduate leadership programmes at the London Business School, INSEAD and most recently MIT.

Dr Karena Conroy is an experienced health researcher and program manager/lead with a PhD in Health and a background in the social sciences. She currently leads two programs of work focussed on the development and implementation of Consumer and Community Involvement in health research, spanning The George Institute for Global Health and Sydney Local Health District. The remit of both Programs is to develop organisational strategies, structures, and processes that facilitate the systematic engagement and meaningful involvement of consumers and community members in health and medical research.

Dr Kate Hunter, PhD, MPH is a senior research fellow with Guunu-maana (Heal), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health program at The George Institute and conjoint senior lecturer at the University of NSW. She is elected chair of Kidsafe NSW (2018-current) and an elected Executive member of the Australasian Injury Prevention Network (2019-current). Working at the knowledge interface – bringing together Indigenous and western knowledges - Dr Hunter’s expertise is in applying an equity lens across the injury prevention spectrum through the conduct and evaluation of complex community and hospital-based programs, ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are central to her work.

Dr Hunter prioritises translational research. She has a track record in scale-up of successful programs, with her research being cited in policy and national guidelines. Dr Hunter is committed to supporting the next generation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal researchers working in partnership with Aboriginal communities and organisations. She has supervised four Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander PhD candidates to completion.

Kate is an NHS doctor in psychiatry working in Edinburgh. Her research considers women’s mental and physical health through the life course. Her current work with The George Institute is focused on the co-creation and implementation of sex and gender policies for the UK’s medical research funders. This is part of a wider initiative to recognise diversity among patients, and ensure research practices and outcomes represent everyone in our society. Kate is also a Commissioner on the BMJ Commission on the Future of the NHS.
