Brain Health Program

global brain health initiative

Healthy brains are key to good health. Hundreds of millions of people around the world have diseases that are linked to brain health, and these numbers will only increase without effective action. Disability, premature death, less opportunities to live life, anguish for family and friends… these are what poor brain health entails. The George Institute has created the Brain Health Program to directly tackle the serious issue of brain health and get people living better longer.

Led by The George Institute's world class researchers, the Brain Health Program is a one-of-a-kind initiative that will bring the best researchers together across multiple disciplines to develop the solutions, the treatments and the evidence for people to improve their brain health. The cost alone of dementia care is $1.3 trillion per year. Delaying the onset of dementia and preventing stroke by just a few years will deliver enormous health, social and economic benefits.

Current George Institute projects (see below) and planned future ones will:

  • delve into what makes up healthy brains;
  • link the medical, engineering and social fields;
  • emphasise prevention, treatment and recovery;
  • foster new technologies and treatments;
  • and, harness The George’s distinctive advocacy, policy engagement and thought leadership to drive real change and impact.
