Cardiovascular disease
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death and disability in the world. The work of this research group integrates large databases of electronic health records, large-scale pragmatic clinical trials, meta-analyses, implementation science and digital technologies to better understand the determinants and consequences of cardiovascular disease and to find better treatments that are capable of improving patient-important outcomes and quality of care.
The research focus is on major cardiometabolic risk factors and conditions such as atrial fibrillation, diabetes, heart failure, high blood pressure (hypertension), ischemic heart disease, obesity, dyslipidaemia (abnormal levels of fats in the blood), valvular heart disease, stroke, and vascular dementia, which significantly impact morbidity and mortality, and, when combined, have major implications at individual and population levels.
